1) IS THERE ANY REGULAR SUNNAH BEFORE FRIDAY PRAYER ? :-

There is no Regular Sunnah Prayer before Jumu’ah (Friday Prayer), because that is not proven from the Prophet (P.B.U.H) and there is no report from the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) that suggests that there is any Specific Regular Sunnah Prayer before Jumu’ah (Friday Prayer).Hence the majority of the imaams agreed that there is no Sunnah to be done at a specific time before Jumu’ah with a specific number of rak’ahs, because that would have been reported from the words or actions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and nothing of that nature has been reported from him. This is the Madhhab of Maalik, al-Shaafa’i and most of his companions, and is the well known view in the Madhhab of Ahmad.

AL-IRAAQI SAID :-

“I have not seen anything to indicate that the three imaams recommended praying Sunnah before it [Jumu’ah].”

AL-ALBAANI COMMENTED :-

For that reason this so-called Sunnah is not mentioned in Kitaab al-Umm by Imaam al-Shaafa’i, or in al-Masaa’il by Imaam Ahmad, or by any of the other early imaams, as far as I know.Hence I say:Those who pray this Sunnah are not following the Messenger or imitating any of the imaams; on the contrary, they are imitating the later scholars who are like them in that they are also imitators [of earlier scholars] rather than mujtahideen [scholars who investigate and form their own rulings]. I am amazed to see an imitator imitating another imitator.

2) SOME DAEEF WEAK NARRATIONS I.E PRAYING BEFORE JUMU’AH PRAYER (FRIDAY PRAYER):-

Abu Abdir Rahman Al-Sulami reports: “Abdullah (bin Mas’ood) used to command us to perform four rakaats salaah before jummah and after the jummah salaah”

MUSANNAF ABDIR AL-RAZZAAQ (Vol 3,Page 247,Idaratul Quran)

This narration is weak because Sufyaan ath-Thawree is narrating it with an AN thus making tadleess.

It is KNOWN that Imaam, Ameer al-Mu’mineen Fil-Haadeth al-Hujjah al-Aabid, Sufyaan ath-Thawree was an Imaam of Ahlus-Sunnah and a preserver of hadeeth of the highest level yet still he was a mudallis

IMAAM AD-DAHABEE SAID :-

Sufyaan would to tadlees from weak narrators.”

(MEEZAAN UL-EI’TIDAAL 2/169,SIYAAR ALAAM AN-NABULA 7/242,7/274)

IBN HAJAR ASQALANI SAID :-

he was a mudallis.

(TABQAAT AL-MUDALLISEEN PAGE 32 NUM 51,TAQREEB UT-TAHDHEEB 2458 PAGE 394,AN-NUKT 2/621)

ABDULLAH IBN AL-MUBAARAK SAID :-

Sufyaan ath-Thawree would do tadlees.

(TAHDHEEB UT-TAHDHEEB 4/102)

IMAAM BUKHARI :-

(AL-ELLAL AL-KABEER 2/966 OF TIRMIDHI AND AT-TAMHEED 1/34)

IMAAM NASEEI :-

(TABQAAT AL-MUDALLISEEN PAGE 32 NUM 51)

YAHYAA IBN MA’EEN :-

(SHARH ELLAL AT-TIRMIDHI 1/357-358,AL KIFAAYAH FEE ILM AR-RIWAAYAH PAGE 361 OF KHATEEB AL-BAGHDAADEE)

YAHYAA IBN SAEED AL-QATTAN :-

(TAHDHEEB UT-TAHDHEEB 11/192)

KHATEEB AL-BAGHDAADEE :-

(AL-KIFAAYAH PAGE 361)

HAAFIDH IBN AS-SAALAH :-

(MUQADDIMAH PAGE 60)

BADR UD-DEEN AYNEE (AL-HANAFI) SAID :-

And Sufyaan (ath-thawree) was among the Mudalliseen and the narration of a Mudallis narrated with An is not hujjah until its confirmation of hearing is proven from another chain”

(UMDAT UL-QAARI 3/112)

MASTER AMEEN OKAARVI DEOBANDI :-

aster Ameen Okaarvi Deobandi criticized one narration due to the tadlees of Sufyaan ath-Thawree.

(MAJMOO RASAAIL OLD PUBLICATION 3/331,TAJALLIYAAT SAFDAR 5/470)

MUHAMMAD TAQI UTHMAANI DEOBANDI :-

While giving preference to the hadeeth of Shu’bah over the hadeeth of Sufyaan ath-Thawree, said: “Despite his highest rank, Sufyaan ath-Thawree sometimes used to commit tadlees…”

(DARS TIRMIDHI 1/521)

AHMED RAZA KHAN BARELWI SAID :-

Regarding Shurayk bin Abdullah al-Qaadhi (Tabaqah two) that: “It is said in Tahdheeb al-Tahdheeb that Abdul Haqq Ashbayli said: ‘He used to commit tadlees’, and ibn al-Qattaan said: ‘he is famous with tadlees’”

(FATAWAH RIZWIYAH 24/239)

SECOND NARRATION :-

Abdullah (bin Mas’ood) reports that Rasulullah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform four rakaats before the jummah salaah”

MUSANNAF IBN ABI SHAYBA (Vol 4, PAGE 114, AL-MAJLIS AL-ILMI)

This is weak because the narration is munqati (broken). because Abu Ubaydah bin Abdullah did not hear from his father Ibn masood.

Imaam Shu’bah narrated from Amr bin Murrah who said: “I asked Abu Ubaydah bin Abdullah whether you heard anything from Abdullah?” He replied: “No”

(TABQAAT IBN SA’D 6/210)

IMAAM TIRMIDHI SAID :-

“His (real) name is not known, and neither did he hear anything from his Father (Abdullah bin Mas’ood)”

(AL-JAAMI 1/28)

Someone asked Imaam Yahya ibn Ma’een: Did Abu Ubaydah hear anything from his Father?, he said: They (Salaf) said: No…

(SAWALA IBN AL-JUNAYD 53)

This is also weak because Khusayf is Sa’ee ul-Hifdh (weak memory) and Mukhtalat ( one whose memory deteiorated at the later part of his age)Imaam Nasaa’ee said: “He (Khusayf) is not Strong”

(KITAAB AD-DUAFA 177)

IMAAM ABU HAATIM SAID :-

“He is criticized for his weak memory”

(AL-JARH 1848)

THIRD NARRATION :-

Ibrahim (Al-Nakh’ee) reports that the Sahaba used to perform four rakaats of salaah before the jummah salaah”

MUSNNAF IBN ABI SHAYBAH (Vol 4, PAGE 114, AL-MAJLIS AL-ILLMI)

This is weak because Sulemaan al-A’mash is narrating it with AN (tadlees) and Ibraaheem an-Nakh’ee only saw a few Sahaabah but he did not narrate from any of them.

(TABQAAT AL-MUDALLISEEN OF IBN HAJAR 2/55)
